*MERKEL MODEL 140.2.1 BOXLOCK DOUBLE RIFLE WITH GOLD INLAYS, SCOPE AND CASE.

SN A375080. Cal. 375 H&H magnum. 23-1/2″ Shoe lump bbls are fitted with full length broad matted rib, central section milled away forming quarter rib and front ramp. Rib mounts one standing, one folding U-notch rear sight, and silver sourdough bead front. Rear portion is fitted with claw bases, and is engraved “Safari .375 H & H”. Makers and importers names are on side of left bbl. Bbl flats are stamped with proof date, caliber, and SN. Bottom of right bbl is stamped “K6128″. A sling loop is screwed to bottom rib. Coin finished, ogee-backed, boxlock action features non-automatic safety, crossbolt third fastener, side clips, pin type cocking indicators, reinforcing side panels, and dbl triggers. Action is engraved with sprays of shaded scroll and geometric borders surrounding African game scenes with primary subjects relief inlaid in gold; elephant on left, and lion on right. Bottom of action has Suhl logo stamped between tendrils of scroll. Fine looking, classically streaked, and lightly streaked European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-3/16″ over thin leather covered pad, and features right hand cheekpiece, point pattern checkering, and a sling loop on toe line. Matching long splinter non-ejector forend has Deeley release. Rifle is fitted with Schmitt & Bender 1.25 – 4 x 20 rail scope with three post duplex reticle in claw mounts. (Scope has lighted red dot in reticle.) Drop at heel: approx 2-3/4″, drop at comb: approx 1-13/16″. Weight without scope: 9 lbs. 8 oz. LOP: 14-3/16”. Factory Americase with black ballistic cloth outer cover, is lined in dark burgundy velvet with “Merkel” embroidered in gold thread in the lid. Case contains snap caps, oil bottle, patch case, batteries for scope, mercury recoil reducer, cleaning rod in stainless steel case, and a horn striker block, as well as bag for action. CONDITION: Excellent, appears little used, with only a few minor handling marks in wood and metal finishes. Bores are excellent. Action is tight. Scope is excellent. Lighted reticle works.
