*CHAPUIS ARMES “IMPERIAL EXPRESS” SIDEPLATED BOXLOCK DOUBLE RIFLE WITH FINE SCROLL AND BULINO ENGRAVING BY DASSA WITH CASE.SN 37711. Cal. 30-06. 23-5/8″ Bbls with unique to Chapuis shoe lump double hook construction, are fitted with matted quarter rib holding single standing leaf rear sight engraved “Carabine Double Express” “Chapuis Armes France”. Transition to mid rib has foliate engraving, as does front ramp which holds white bead adjustable for elevation. Extractors are fitted with spring plungers to engage rimless case. Coin finished, sideplated, boxlock action features non-automatic safety, bushed strikers, and dbl triggers. Action is engraved with near full coverage well cut semi-relief open shaded acanthus scroll surrounding Bulino vignette of a pronghorn antelope on bottom. Left sideplate tail depicts a roaring elk, and a large mule deer is on right. Trigger plate is signed “Dassa”. Wonderfully burl figured and marbled European walnut steel capped pistol grip buttstock measures 15″ over checkered wood buttplate, and features a large shadow line right hand cheekpiece, nicely engraved grip cap, and point pattern checkering with line borders. A matching beavertail forend has Deeley type release. Drop at heel: approx 2-7/8″, drop at comb: approx 1-5/8″. Cast: approx 1/4″ off. Weight: 7 lbs. 12 oz. LOP: 15″. Makers vinyl covered case with leather trim is lined in red waled cloth, and has Chapuis label in lid. Case contains proof certificate, guarantee cards, and test target. PROVENANCE: Remarkable William Larkin Moore Private Estate Collection of Fine Sporting Arms. CONDITION: Excellent, nearly as new with only a few light handling and assembly marks in all factory finishes, most notably some light scratches and marks at left side buttstock near toe.
