FINE BENCH MADE OAK PEDESTAL WRITING DESK.Circa 1922, Marstal, Denmark. Rectangular top with foliate molded edge, the writing surface comprised of bookend veneers above the conforming frieze fitted with three aligned drawers raised on elaborately carved S-scrolled foliate supports terminating at top and bottom with foliate rondels centering a rectangular pedestal support at each end with matching bookend veneers conforming to the writing surface. The ends joined by a rectangular molded stretcher serving as a footrest. Trestle base raised on flattened round disc feet. SIZE: 30-1/2″ h x 31-1/2″ w x 59″ l. PROVENANCE: The writing desk was commissioned by Christian Vogensen, a prominent pharmacist in the towns of Marstal, Odense, Svendborg and in Skjern, Denmark. The desk was kept by Mr. Vogensen until his death in 1947 when it was passed down within the family and now to the current family member and consignor. CONDITION: Very good original condition with no structural problems, damages or restoration. Minor and light ring glass stains on top of writing desk which may easily be cosmetically removed. 51994-1 (200-400) – Lot 3194
