4 BORE I. HOLLIS PERCUSSION RIFLE.

SN NSN. Cal. 4 Bore. .944 Groove diameter. 9 shallow lands. This neat old well balanced rifle has 28″ tapered octagon twist bbl, with under rib, engraved “I. Hollis & Sons London” and “Made Expressly for F. & C” on top flat. A one standing leaf and two folding nested express rear sight, and a barleycorn front are dovetailed through. Heavy bolstered patent breech is scroll engraved matching large breech iron with integral fence. Island type front action lock with flat faced serpentine hammer is also scroll engraved under makers name, and has two circular stamps with intertwined monogram logo “I, H & S” within “Makers to Her Majestys War Department”. All furniture is of steel, except for a German silver nose cap. Trigger guard tang forms checkered pistol grip. Lightly figured European walnut stock is coarsely checkered at grip. Stock attaches to bbl with single captive side nail through oval steel escutcheons. Two plain pipes hold brass and rosewood ramrod with worm under cap at tail. Drop at heel: approx 2-5/8″, drop at comb: approx 2″. Weight: 12 lbs. 12 oz. LOP: 14-1/8″. CONDITION: Very fine, as refinished. Bbl retains nearly all of a fine quality brown, with good definition to pattern. All iron parts retain nearly all of a rather subdued re-color hardening. Stock retains nearly all of a hand rubbed oil finish, checkering re-cut. Bore is fair to good, with considerable pitting. Will probably still shoot.
