CARVED AND FITTED HARDWOOD TRUNK.

Late 19th century, Indian or South East Asian. The trunk with panels depicting allegorical landscape scenes, one illustrating a robed praying figure dragged by a horsemen ascending to the heavens, a court scene, a scene of two men conversing in a wooded clearing all carved in deep relief. The hinged lid opening to an interior fitted with carved, lidded compartments. The lid a three dimensional gallery depicting the facade of a courtyard with arches supported by floral paint decorated and carved supports. SIZE: 19-1/2″ h x 32-1/2″ l x 17-1/2″ d.
