19th century or earlier, China. The curved crest rail continuing to downsloping arms with out-scrolled grips above the shaped splat fitted with two white marble rectangular panels centering a carved gilt panel within a red lacquer surround. The rectangular seat with woven insert panel. The whole raised on square tapering legs centering a shaped seat rail and apron, joined by box stretcher and footrest. SIZE: Back: 38″ h. Seat: 20-3/4″ h. Overall: 30″ w. PROVENANCE: From a private New York State collection. CONDITION: Surfaces with black paint over original red lacquer. Old repairs and restoration to back.
