PAIR OF SATSUMA PALACE URNS ON STANDS.Mid 19th century, Japan. Each large gilt decorated urn with flaring mouth and linen fold edge, the handles in the form of seated boys, each holding a ring with tassel. Decorated with opposing panels depicting allegorical battles between a Samurai and a mythical demon figure within a forest landscape. The vases marked on circular footed stands. SIZE: Urn: 37-1/2″ h, 23″ dia at handles. Stands: 8″ h, 12″ dia. CONDITION: Urns with craquelure and soiling. Areas of wear to enamel at mouth. One stand in need of restoration.
