HOYT “BLACK FARMER” AUTOMATON.

Late 19th/early 20th century, Germany. Probably by Hoyt, original paper label now absent. Mechanical key-wind, die cut lithograph depicting black farmer in cap, checked shirt and overalls. Brass spring-driven clock movement controls the head to tilt left and right while mouth opens and closes and eyes also move left to right. The whole mounted in shadowbox oak frame with silver slip under glass. SIZE: 21-1/2″ x 16-1/2″ sight. 27″ h x 22 ” w overall. CONDITION: Backboard on frame a replacement. Movement original and functioning. Slight yellowing to cream background and to lower area of bust figure. Otherwise good and untouched. 50461-1 (2,000-3,000) – Lot 3167
