RARE HOWARD DOUBLE DIAL HANGING RAILROAD SLAVE CLOCK.

Second half, 19th century, Boston, Massachusetts. The quarter sawn oak case in the form of an inverted “Napoleon Hat” shelf clock. The enameled iron dial marked “E. Howard & Co Boston” within the Roman numeral chapter ring. The case with hinged molded door on either side. The base with raised shaped panel. The clock designed to be suspended from the ceiling and fitted with a brass button beneath the numeral VI. Designed to set the hour hand. This slave clock retains original brass movement marked “E. Howard & Co Boston” and with the numeral 2486 also inscribed on the front plate. The clock now operated by a Piexx which acts as the master. SIZE: 21″ h x 37″ w. PROVENANCE: Clock originally hung in the Central Railroad Station located in Granby, Quebec, Canada to a Newport, Vermont antiques dealer to a private collection in Wayne, Maine to the current owner. CONDITION: Case very good overall with original cleaned finish. Dials original with some areas of minor paint loss. Notable loss to one dial near the numeral IIII of the chapter ring. Cut blued steel hands original. Very good overall. Note that clock is functional with Piexx. 52137-4 (1,200-1,500) – Lot 3157
