TWO CLASSICAL REVIVAL WHITE MARBLE JARDINIERES.

Second half, 19th century. The first rectangular marble planter carved with gadrooned edge. The front carved with a group of frolicking cherubs playing musical instruments and dancing. The ends carved with armorial shields flanked by ribbon-tied garlands. The rear carved with floral ribbon-tied garlands, centering rondels carved with fanciful masks. The second planter of rectangular form, carved with flower-heads amidst woven ribbon above the side carved with an armorial crest, flanked by winged dragons, the tails in the form of vinery entwining a flower head. The ends carved with ribbon-tied garlands of fruit. SIZE: 9″ h x 25″ l x 9-1/2″ w. 10″ h x 41″ l x 16-1/2″ w. PROVENANCE: From a private Massachusetts collection. CONDITION: The first, with some soiling overall and with shallow chips on edges and normal and expected weathering. Otherwise structurally good. The second larger example, with brown staining at midpoint along side and with old stress crack on top edge. Soiling and weathering overall. 50800-141 (600-900) – Lot 3153
