SEVEN JADE AXE PENDANTS.

1) Probably Han period, China. Axe form with one hole. Surface decorated with tao tieh masks. “Onion skin” colored stone. 2) Han style, China. Top with two chih lung. Body decorated with two tao tieh masks. Gray-green stone with calcification. 3) Han style and possibly of the period, China. Rectangular form with flanges. Tao tieh mask on one side; grain pattern on the reverse. Dark amber colored stone. 4) Neolithic, Liang Chu style and probably of the period, 2nd c BC, China. Heavily calcified green stone. 5) Possibly Han period, China. One side carved with a chih lung, the other carved with comma marks. Stone of yellow-gray color with amber streaks. 6) Possibly Warring states period, China. Finely carved. Burned black color. 7) Probably Warring states (4th-2nd BC), China. Shaped with period body and relief decoration of a tao tieh mask. Finial in the form of a crouching tiger. Amber colored with areas of calcification. SIZE: 1) 3″ x 1-3/4″. 2) 2″ d. 3) 2″ x 1-1/2″. 4) 2-3/4″ x 1-3/4″. 5) 2″ x 1-1/4″. 6) 3-1/2″ x 2-3/4″. 7) 2″ x 2″. PROVENANCE: The personal collection of Dr. Helga Wall-Apelt.
