FINE CLASSICAL WHITE MARBLE STATUE OF A MAIDEN AND CHERUB.19th century, Europe. The sculpture depicting a semi-nude maiden seated on a rocky outcrop. A robe partially draped over her right thigh against which is kneeling, a cherub in a position of supplication. A bouquet of roses lies on the ground between them. The women holding an object in her right hand resting against her hip. SIZE: 40″ h x 31″ l approx x 23″ w approx. PROVENANCE: From a private Massachusetts collection. CONDITION: Losses to two fingers on left hand of maiden and four fingers of right hand. Damage and losses to all toes on right foot. Cherub with losses to two fingers on right hand and with substantial loss to wing-tips of both wings. Minor damage to petals on roses. Surface abrasion to back of maiden. Otherwise with normal and expected soiling and weathering. Lower leg and right foot of maiden, now with base coat of gray due to restoration. 50800-35 (5,000-8,000) – Lot 3152
