RARE FABERGE GOLD AND ENAMEL PENCIL HOLDER.

Early 20th century, St. Petersburg, Russia. The holder of oval form with pale lavender enamel with the appearance of “snakeskin” pattern, the opening with gold collar in which is fitted the original small pencil marked with crossed hammers and “JOHANN”. The handle with a hallmark “AA” and a right facing head with “56” for gold standard. NOTE: Andre Carlovich Adler, a Swiss citizen and owner of goldsmith workshop ARND in St. Petersburg. Adler supplied the firm of Faberge with small guilloche enamel objects like pencil holders, pens, lockets, cufflinks, match box cases, match strikers, cigarette and vesta cases. (see ‘Faberge And St. Petersburg Jewelers’ by T.Faberge, A. Goryina and V. Skurlov, 1997, page 111). Most of his guilloche enamel pieces were made between 1908 and 1917. SIZE: 3-1/2″ l.
