FINE EBONIZED MARQUETRY TALL CHEST IN THE MANNER OF HERTER BROTHERS.

Probably New York, last quarter 19th century. The ebonized oak six drawer chest with abalone chip inlays all within borders of inset brass strips. Each drawer with intricate marquetry depicting brass tendrils and vinery with abalone flower heads. The rectangular top with molded edge above the conforming case fitted with six long drawers flanked by freestanding Corinthian columns with cast gilt metal capitols, the bases applied with ribbon-tied garlands and cast Anthemion leaves. The whole on molded base raised on suppressed ball feet. SIZE: 52″ h x 33″ w x 19-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Cracks in top, small areas of staining to ebonized surface, similar to alcohol spills. One brass Strip absent on fourth drawer from top. Two brass trips off of proper left side but present. On brass strip near base proper right side in need of re-attachment, otherwise structurally sound. 50271-3 (5,000-8,000) – Lot 3121
