FINE LONGWY STYLE AESTHETIC MOVEMENT BRASS PLANT STAND WITH PORCELAIN INSERTS ATTRIBUTED TO BRADLEY & HUBBARD.

Circa 1880, Meriden, Ct. The square brass top with wide border impressed with dense floral foliage within a border cast with quilloches centering the scenic porcelain tile depicting a winter mountainous landscape; a windmill in the foreground and castle in the background, all in state of ruin. Joined to a central pedestal comprised of four slender brass rods surmounted by flower heads joined to and centering two discs impressed with floral panels. The discs joined to a central shaft with pierced tapering platform supporting the top of the stand. Joined to the lower disc is a porcelain cylinder with brass capped urn finial similarly decorated as the top tile with winter landscape depicting snow covered cottage. The whole raised on thin cylindrical brass legs formed in 90 degree angles with angular brass supports each surmounted by a punched carved and incised “Fin”. The legs terminating in floral decorated cone feet. Impressed mark beneath the top “PAT APL’D FOR”. NOTE: For a similar example see In Pursuit of Beauty, published by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, pg. 281. Also, several similar examples have sold at auction in recent years including Lot #15, sold June 11, 2011, at Rago Arts and Auction Center and also bearing the impressed mark “PAT APLLIED FOR”. Another example attributed to Longwy sold at Fontaine’s Auction Gallery on January 11, 2014, as lot #50. SIZE: 33″ h x 13-1/2″ sq. CONDITION: Brass surfaces retain original lacquer, in generally fine condition with only minor and minimal pitting.
