*◊ EXCELLENT MAUSER C96 FLATSIDE CARBINE WITH 12″ BARREL, VL&D, IN PRESENTATION CASE.SN 244. Cal. 7.63mm. Mauser made approximately 200 Large Ring Flatside carbines. This example has a 12″ bbl with a hooded, drift adjustable bead front sight and a slip-in 50-500 rear sight. The elongated chamber is marked with the usual Mauser address while SN “244” is on the left chamber flat; antler acceptance is on the right chamber flat. Left side of the frame is retailer marked “VON LENGERKE/& DETMOLD/NEW-YORK”. The SN is repeated on the left side of the frame and on the left side of the stock iron at their juncture. SN “244” is additionally marked under the rear sight bar and back of the hammer. Limited disassembly shows the matching SN on the follower, floorplate, firing pin retainer, bolt and firing pin. Major components are rust blued. The extractor, the usual components of the rear sight, the firing pin retainer, bolt stop, safety and stock lug are fire blued while the trigger and attendant housing are in-the-white. Standard smooth forearm and buttstock that has an orig Mauser buttplate with an intertwined “MW”. Accompanied by a high quality black, leather bound and weighted, presentation case measuring 23-3/4″ x 11″ x 3″. An oval unmarked silver plated plaque measuring 2-1/8″ x 1-1/4″ is mounted on the lid that is lined with green cloth having gold imprint “WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER/AKTIENGESELLSCHFT/OBERNDORF a NECKAR/(Deutsches Reich)”. Compartmentalized base, lined in dark green velvet, made to separately hold the top assembly of a longer barreled carbine, buttstock and ammunition. Included is a single reproduction black leather ammo case. PROVENANCE: The Friedrich-Wilhelm Dauphin Collection, Germany. CONDITION: Approx 95-97% bright orig rust blue with muzzle and sharp edge wear reflecting careful use. Comparable condition fire blue on all small parts except stock lug that shows more oxidative change, particularly on the upper and lower arms. Forearm and buttstock retain most orig light varnish with scattered handling dings. No discernible cracks or significant losses. Near excellent buttplate. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. Excellent condition presentation case and ammo box with scattered marks and scuffs applied to reflect appropriate aging. 49828-16 LMA (13,500-19,500) C&R – Lot 3104
