*EXCEEDINGLY FINE SPECIMEN OF THE LATE WAR VG1 VOLKSSTURM RIFLE.

SN 86A. Cal. 8mm. This is the approved design by Walther for the Volkssturm rifle which uses a 10 round K.43 mag. This rifle is coded “tbq” (Rheinmetall-Borsig AG). Bolt SN matches rifle. Stock devoid of any markings or proofs. It incorporates a Luftwaffe aircraft machine gun bbl, solid Beech stock and orig unbleached linen sling, no alterations since capture and no import marks. Mag is marked “avx” with “WaA 204″ (Sudmetall AG). These rifles were the culmination of German war production attempts to make a functional rifle as quickly and as inexpensively as possible. This rifle looks crude but is an attractive piece in it’s simplified functionality and has a capacity of double the number of rounds of the standard 98K. CONDITION: Extremely fine with metal finish on bbl and receiver approaching near excellent, lustrous dark blue on bbl, rough milling lines visible on receiver under gray finish turning to patina. Mag high lustrous blue. Bolt handle has lost about 30% of its finish at the top with flakes of black paint remaining around SN otherwise turning to a gray/brown patina. Stock is extremely fine with some noticeable dings in the wood on both sides above mag, with a deep indentation about 3/8” long on left side of buttstock along with some minor handling marks. Exceedingly scarce late war linen sling intact and serviceable. Bore is exceedingly fine, shiny and bright. This is about as nice a specimen as one could hope to find and holds up very handily and comfortably. Superb find for the WWII collector. 50821-6 JWK64 (3,000-6,000) C&R – Lot 3094
