SN 388952. Cal. 30-06. This Class 4 special order target model rifle has an early Type 2 receiver made in the 1947-48 time frame with clover leaf tang, and safety latch without cylindrical leg. Serial number places it in 1956. Bolt matches receiver. Scope is marked “J.UNERTL USMC – SNIPER 2744” with correct UNERTL marked mounting blocks. Lense caps are present, as is original scope carrier and original leather sling. Stock is marked at pistol grip with deep serif circle “P”, but is otherwise a standard stock. Absolutely correct and original early Winchester Model 70 from advanced U.S. Rifle collector who states it came from the estate of a three war Veteran United States Marine Corps (USMC) retired Colonel who was Captain of the Marine Corp rifle team at Camp Pendleton, CA. CONDITION: Overall appearance and finish is extremely fine to near excellent with nearly all of its orig. lustrous deep blue finish with a few very light scratches here and there. Scope optics are clear. Scope also retains nearly all of its lustrous deep blue finish. Stock has a few light handling marks with a few nicks and scratches and loss of wood finish around the buttplate edge. Bore is excellent, shiny and bright. Sling leather is cracking but remains serviceable and strong. Scope carrier is in fine to extremely fine condition with some scratches and handling marks with an area 5 1/2″ x 2″ where fabric tape residue appears on the side. 51087-5 JWK91 (10,000-15,000) C&R – Lot 3077
