EXCEPTIONAL RARE PAILLARD “DINNER” MODEL MUSIC BOX ON STAND.

Last quarter 19th century, Switzerland. The rectangular burled walnut case with mahogany cross-banding and ebonized borders fitted with the original fired machine with three combs and zither attachment and with five 18″ cylinders each playing six tunes. The case fitted to the original table base similarly inlaid raised on spool turned spiral twist tapering cylindrical legs terminating in cast lion’s mask holding a wooden ball foot. The table fitted with a single large drawer designed for storage of four cylinders, underside of the drawer with original Paillard stencil. *NOTE* Music box was purchased from Ruth Bornand Music Box Specialist in Pelham, New York, in 1979 and is briefly described in an article by Lynn Ames in the New York Times Sunday edition, August 19th, 1979. The music box has remained in the consignor’s family since that time. SIZE: 50″ h x 55-1/2″ w x 20-1/2″ d. CONDITION: Case and table with original surface with minimal and minor veneer loss, lid with very slight bow.
