ROCK ISLAND AND PACIFIC RAILROAD COMPANY TRADE SIGN.This fabulous large sign was made by the Western Sandblast Co. of Chicago, Illinois. There is purportedly only 50 of these large size signs made and less than half known to have survived. Reverse painted on glass with mother-of-pearl inlay. The original mahogany ogee style stained frame titled “Great Rock-Island Route”. The reverse painted scene shows a locomotive and tender with six long passenger cars traveling right to left. The train is inscribed “1112 United States Express Rocky Mountain Limited”. The foreground has cattle and one cowboy on horse. The background is a mountain range with snow peaks.
