FULLY JOINTED STEIFF POLAR BEAR WITH BUTTON AND UNIQUE BALL-JOINTED NECK FEATURE.

A most endearing circa 1910 polar bear made from white mohair, which has darkened slightly over time. Polar bear has tan felt paw pads with four hand-embroidered claws on each. The bear’s face is preciously detailed with tiny black shoebutton eyes and a black hand-embroidered nose and mouth. A special feature of this particular model is his ball-jointed neck which enables him to rotate his head in a full circle. This design advancement, patented by Steiff in 1908, was also used on poodles, pigs, cats and opossums. Polar bear retains the Steiff trailing “F” button and remains of his white ear tag.
