OAK SHEET MUSIC CABINET, FERNERY AND FOLDING CONVERSION CHAIR.

Maine and New England late 19th, early 20th century. The quarter sawn Victorian sheet music cabinet with chip carved back splash. The case fitted with 5 shaped, fixed shelves above an open medial shelf, raised on frontal in-curved scrolling legs. The rear legs continuing from the case. The oak fernery of Arts & Crafts style of rectangular form with open tin-lined well, raised on square legs, joined by trestle formed stretcher with rectangular shelf. The unusual maple Victorian folding chair with 5 turned spindle back above a hinged rectangular seat, raised on shaved frontal legs and back swept rear legs terminating in a platform. The dual purpose of the chair consists of its conversion into library ladder comprised of four steps when chair has been reconfigured. The top most step with makers brand “MADE BY / PARIS MFG. CO./ SOUTH PARIS, ME. U.S.A./ NO. 1.” SIZE: Music cabinet: Overall height 33″ x 18″ w x 14-1/2″ d. Fernery: 31″ h x 30″ l x 12-1/4″ w. Folding chair: 35″ h x width of seat 16″. PROVENANCE: A private Maine/Texas collection. CONDITION: All 3 in structurally very good condition and retaining original surfaces.
