GROUP OF TEN ORIENTAL RUGS, PERSIA.

Late 19th through 20th century. 1) A Baluchistan Torba or trapping of rectangular form in shades of indigo latch hook design on a terracotta field. The longitudinal ends with braided weaving. The whole with an outer border of stylized flower heads with selvedge at the top and with the remnants of tassels at the base. 2) A Northwest Persian bag face with stylized rose pink cross on a midnight blue field. An animal at each quadrant within borders of flower heads and trelliswork, all within a blue/black and indigo outer guard border. 3) A Qashgai bag face with central indigo and wine red diamond medallion with ivory serrated border in a midnight blue field, woven with two stylized birds at the base and with polychrome snowflake and geometric floral design within an ivory main border. The outer guard border in iron brown with turquoise latch hook design. 4) Semi-antique Baluchistan prayer rug with dense rows of geometric lozenges and stars in earth tones of green, brown, orange, terracotta, and black all within key and fret pattern borders, the mihrab flanked by stylized geometric trees, the main border with blue/black wine glass pattern alternating with crosses. 5) Semi-antique Qashgai with central terracotta diamond with stylized cross in ivory and indigo, an animal in each of the quadrants within a serrated dog tooth border centered by blue/black spandrels with dense polychrome stars, diamonds and S-hooks all within an ivory main border of polychrome interlocking arrow devices. 6) Hamadan rug with dense rows of beetle like design in chartreuse and indigo on an ivory field with dog tooth borders centered by geometric spandrels in rose pink, indigo, and iron brown within a similarly designed main border in medium indigo guard borders with wine glass a diamond design. 7) Small Hamadan rug with central arabesque ivory medallion in a rose red field with dense polychrome flower heads centered by ivory spandrels with polychrome floral design within a blue/gray main border of stylized polychrome trelliswork flanked by burgundy guard borders with polychrome S-hook devices. 8) Kirman runner with central poled arabesque floral medallion on a rose pink field centered by scrolling floral spandrels and a polychrome floral main border. 9) A Spada Oriental rug with overall geometric Caucasian design in shades of pink and pale indigo on an olive field with crenelated and dog tooth borders, the main border with conforming geometric designs. 10) Small Chinese mat with polychrome floral landscape with two exotic birds on a deep indigo ground within a burnt gold main border of scrolling polychrome floral vinery all within a blue/black guard border. PROVENANCE: Maralyn Young estate, Arundel/Falmouth Maine, being sold unreserved. CONDITION: 1) Retains good pile with even wear, deterioration along braided and tasseled edges, a 1″ diameter hole present within border; left front facing. Some degradation in iron dyed threads, otherwise fair to good. 2) Bag face retains good pile with some minor pulling of thread and soiling, otherwise generally good. 3) Bag face retains nearly full pile with general soiling, otherwise good to very good. 4) With overall even wear most notably within mihrab, deterioration at ends in flat stitch borders, some deterioration to selvedge, color somewhat faded, pattern and design remain the same. 5) This piece retains vibrant palette with overall even wear. In small areas wear down to foundation, losses to end fringes including outer guard border and with deterioration to selvedge, otherwise fair to good. 6) Even wear overall, retaining good pile, color somewhat faded. 7) Overall even wear with losses to ends into outer guard border, general soiling. 8) Overall even wear retaining good pile, general soiling, loss and deterioration to fringe. 9) Even wear throughout, losses to end fringe and to outer guard border, general soiling, fair overall. 10) General wear with areas of foundation visible, general soiling and with losses to ends into outer guard border. 51412-67 (1,000-1,500) – Lot 2623
