FINE BENCHMADE MARQUETRY WRITING DESK WITH ASSOCIATED ARMCHAIR.Late 19th century, George C. Flint Company, New York. Kidney shaped desk in the Louis XV taste fitted with bowfront central drawer, flanked by a concave door opening to interior fitted with filing slots and a bank of 2 short drawers with concave fronts, raised on cabriole legs terminating in pad feet raised on brass capped casters. Writing surface adorned with marquetry floral vinery and cornucopia. Central drawer with marquetry opposing fanciful serpents, door with floral filled urn, short drawers with floral sprays. Finished back of desk profusely decorated with floral filled urns and scrolling vinery on each panel. Label of George C. Flint Company, West 23rd Street, NY affixed to underside of desk. Desk finished with custom shaped plate glass protective top. Desk is accompanied by a marquetry armchair of art noveau design featuring an inlaid back panel, arms on cabriole supports centering upholstered needlepoint seat of floral design. SIZE: Desk 31-1/2″ h x 45-1/2″ w x 27-1/2″ d. Chair 30-1/2″ h (back) x 22-1/2″ w x 16-1/2″ h (seat). CONDITION: Desk and chair very good, with original surface and needlepoint seat.
