FOUR FOLIOS OF THE WORKS OF JOSEPH ADDISON, DESCENDED FROM THE ADAMS FAMILY.(Tickner) THE WORKS OF THE RIGHT HONOURABLE JOSEPH ADDISON, ESQUIRE, London: Tonson,1721. Complete in four volumes including the frontis in VOL I and the six plates of medals. The list of subscribers to be found at the conclusion of VOL IV. Enclosed is a letter from the “Donor” dated September the 12th,1794. The recipient of the set is Miss Anna Harrod, the wife of Thomas Boyleston Adams, son of John and Abigail Adams. The signature of Thomas B. Adams is found in all four volumes. To the front paste downs of each volume are found the ink inscriptions of Elizabeth C. Adams representing the set to Annie Harrod Boyd. Also found is a 19th century photograph of T.B. Adams home in Quincy, Massachusetts. PROVENANCE: Maralyn Young estate, Arundel/Falmouth Maine, being sold unreserved. CONDITION: Printed on heavy stock free of foxing. In full leather with inlays front and rear and ornate gold stamped spines with all four spine labels present, two letters missing on the spine title of VOL 3 and VOL IV with the front board cleanly detached and present.
