ARCHIVE OF A PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE ODD FELLOW.

Included in this archive is presentation Odd Fellow sword made by MC Lilley, Columbus, OH with the name “CLARENCE E. GOODING PRESQUE ISLE, ME”. Sword is in beautiful conditioning retaining much of its original gilt and luster to blade, finely preserved in original chamois bag and tooled leather storage case, which also has his name applied in shadowed lettering. Four different pieces of head gear in near pristine condition are retained in leather casing, especially compartmentalized for each hat with protective covers or rain covers for each of the three kepi style hats and chapeau de bras. There are two vintage photographs of Gooding wearing the same sword, sword belt, over the shoulder belt, and chapeau de bras. There is a 3-page manuscript listing the 1882 founding of the Presque Isle Lodge with a list of members. There are also three Odd Fellow books including Poems for Odd Fellows and Rebeckahs, 1900 and Codes of General Laws of the I.O.O.F., 1915 and The Illustrated History of Odd Fellowship FLT, 1915. CONDITION: Overall, sword and hats are fine to excellent due to storage in leather trunk and leather casing. The purple plume on the chapeau is deteriorating, but hat itself is quite fine. Cabinet card is very good The gelatin photograph showing children is faded with soiling. Manuscript is frayed with cracks at fold. Books are good and sound with the Illustrated History having hinges that are starting and chipped spine at edges. Leather sheath for sword has broken stitches. 49937-2 (300-500) – Lot 2569
