MARTIALLY MARKED WINCHESTER COMPOSITE HOTCHKISS CARBINE. Cal. 45-70. Standard carbine with 24″ round bbl, square base front sight with windage carbine rear sight mounted in a 2nd Model carbine stock with brass hinged foreend tip containing a 2-pc wiping rod. Chamber area is marked with standard US, Navy and Springfield markings and may be an altered Navy musket bbl. 1-pc stock has a sling ring on left side with carbine-style smooth steel buttplate. SN 1200. CONDITION: Bbl and receiver are mostly a plum-brown patina with blue in sheltered areas with pitting and artificial aging around the front sight. The two cut-off plate screws are missing. Stock is fine and retains most of its original finish. Bright shiny bore. 4-46674 JR134 (500-1,500)
