EARLY AMERICAN PAINT DECORATED BLANKET CHEST.18th Century, probably Pennsylvania. This nice early example in yellow pine with hinged rectangular two board lid mounted with snipe hinges opening to interior fitted with a lidded sill. The case front with three recessed panels, each decorated with a sunflower, alternating with applied turned half-column decorations, additionally painted with the date 1702 beneath the lid. Case ends with single panel and the back with two panels, all of which are deeply chamfered. The pilasters continuing to case supports. SIZE: Height: 25-1/2″ Width: 43-1/2″ Depth: 19″ CONDITION: The lid with well worn surface with age appropriate blemishes and wear. Lock and clasp remain intact. Paint surfaces on case good overall. Structurally sound with no restoration noted and with minor losses to proper right rear leg. 49922-66 (2,500-3,500) – Lot 2546
