2 JAPANESE WOODBLOCK OBAN TRIPTYCH OF SHOGUN SAMURAI.

1) Late 19th century. Triptych of ceremonies and events at the Shogun’s Castle in Edo from the series “Chiyoda Palace”, published in 1897, by the artist Chikanobu. 2) Triptych image of Sasaki Takatsuna and Kagesue crossing the Uji River at the Battle of Ujigawa, by the artist Kayochika, published by Kobayashi in 1898. SIZE: 1) ōban tate-e. Block size 13-3/4″ x 27-1/2″, 34.93cm x 69.85cm. 2) ōban tate-e. Block size 14″ x 28″, 35.56cm x 71.12cm. PROVENANCE: From a Maine collection.
