FINE VICTORIAN BIRD’S EYE MAPLE SPECIMEN CABINET.

Late 19th century, American. This very unusual display cabinet with baluster-turned gallery above the rectangular case fitted with beveled mirror plate behind a pierced foliate carved facade within which is set a rondel carved with a butterfly feeding on flowers. The whole supported by stylized Corinthian column. The case additionally fitted with three raised paneled compartments hinged and opening to display a variety of specimen drawers and compartments, many of which are designed to pivot outward to display their contents. Additionally fitted with central bowfront panel which opens on a swivel exposing an additional display surface. All above an arrangement of drawers and beveled clear glass paneled door above an open shelf with turned baluster gallery raised on shaped supports. SIZE: 63″ h x 31″ w x 15-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: From a Maine/Texas estate being sold unreserved. CONDITION: Very fine intact and functional cabinet retaining original keys and functioning locks. Cabinet at some point was stripped of original surface and refinished. Now with bright honey color and pronounced graining. 51358-82 (800-1,200) – Lot 2448
