*EARLY, FIRST YEAR OF PRODUCTION, WINCHESTER MODEL 70 AFRICAN SUPER GRADE BOLT ACTION RIFLE.

SN 369670. (1956) Cal. .458 Win Mag. 25″ Bbl has no recoil block (correct for early rifles), and is fitted with second type special express sight, with elevation adjustable by knurled wheel at front portion. Bbl is fitted with, unique to caliber, sling eye integral with bottom of bbl. Standard markings are on central left. Typical Model 70 action features engine turned bolt extractor and cartridge follower. Bottom of floorplate is marked “SUPER GRADE”. Lightly figured American walnut steel capped pistol grip stock measures 13-5/8″ over red Winchester pad, and is of Monte Carlo design, with large right hand cheekpiece. Point pattern checkering with heavy beaded borders is at grip. Stock also features ebonite forend tip, reinforcing bolt, and “Super Grade” swivels in inset base on toe line. Drop at heel: approx 2-5/8″, drop at rear of Monte Carlo: 2-1/8″, drop at comb: approx 1-3/4″. Weight: 9 lbs 0 oz. LOP: 13-5/8″. Also included are a Weaver rear scope base and NECG rear aperture sight. CONDITION: Excellent, close to new, retaining essentially all of its blued finish on bbls, action, and other parts, with only one or two light scratches and marks. Stock retains nearly all its orig finish with some marks and chips through, especially on edge of cheekpiece and at left rear of action. Pad has darkened. Checkering still relatively light in color.
