UNIQUE SPOOL ART ARMCHAIR.

Late 19th century, American. This unusual example of folk art with scrolling gilt metal crest above rectangular back with central padded upholstered panel joined to arms with padded brass tacked panels. The supports in the form of cast-metal serpents centering the over-upholstered seat raised on spool turned legs terminating in gold gilt suppressed ball feet. The entire chair frame comprised of an arrangement of spools forming colonettes and lattice work. The seat rail with crossed spool design. The chair is additionally decorated with molded brass reeded rosettes. A truly unique and fine example. SIZE: 53-1/2″ h at back x 18″ h of seat x 23″ w. CONDITION: Structurally very good with old original surface. Later gold paint on crest and dragon supports over original paint. 51499-1 (2,000-2,500) – Lot 2392
