PAINT DECORATED PINE DOME-TOP DOWER CHEST.Circa 1828, possibly Pennsylvania. The hinged two board dome-top carved with the numeral 71 opening to an interior fitted with a till above a molded candle drawer with fielded panels. Interior of lid in cream paint decorated with a scrolling feathered design and mounted with a hand wrought iron hasp. The trunk fitted with original iron lock and key that is functional. The trunk in original red wash mounted with iron carrying handles and with a hand wrought iron heart shaped escutcheon. The front, paint decorated to simulate three panels, the central panel painted with stylized floral spray within dark green lined borders. The outermost panels each decorated with a single pine tree. All beneath a painted name in flowing script and with the date “1828”. SIZE: 20-1/2″ h x 35″ l x 18″ d. CONDITION: A shrinkage seam split along dome-top. painted and stained surfaces with extensive wear throughout. Wrought iron hardware intact and operational. Dovetailed trunk structurally good.
