SN 53288. Cal. 12 GA 2-3/4” Chambers. This fine, specially made gun, has no grade markings on water table or on wood under grip cap, however SN on bbl is preceded by a lazy “O” often used by Lefever to denote special order guns. It exhibits most of the qualities and finish found in ‘C” grade guns, but has some unusual special features including its 32” Whitworth steel bbls, fitted with slightly raised, flat, matted rib which are gold inlaid “Lefever Arms Co. Whitworth Steel” and “Presented to A. C. Bryan. 1906”. Bbls have typical Lefever high grade raised ogee transitions from action, gold inlaid bands, and 1” triangles of geometric and scroll engraving at breech ends. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with Whitworth sheaf of wheat trademarks and SN. Coin finished action features automatic safety, gold-plated cocking indicators, and gold-plated dbl triggers, and is engraved in typical “C” grade style, with sprays of well-cut scroll and geometric flourishes. Sideplates, have double dogs in circular vignettes, setters on left, pointers on right. “Lefever Arms Co” is on the front of each lockplate. Case hardened trigger guard has typical Lefever spaniel retrieving a duck flanked by more scroll. Very fine, well marbled, and lightly figured European walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14” over Lefever embossed hard rubber buttplate. Lozenge shaped drop points are behind lockplates. Point pattern checkering with flourishes into butt is at grip. A gold oval on toe line is engraved “A. C. Bryan”. Matching splinter forend has steel tip, central escutcheon, and friction release. Bore diameter: left -.732, right -.733. Bore restrictions: left -.033 (full), right -.029 (IMod). Wall thickness: left -.030, right -.028. Drop at heel: 2-7/8″, drop at comb: 1-11/16″. Action retains nearly all of its orig case hardening color, with a hint of silvering on sharp edges, fences and beads. Case hardening on forend escutcheon and trigger guard tang remains strong. Engraving on all parts sharp and crisp. Gold-plating is worn on cocking indicators, almost completely gone on left side, and flaked and rubbed on triggers from contact with trigger plate. Stocks retain essentially all of their hand rubbed oil finish with a number of light marks and scratches, as one would expect from 110 years of standing in a closet. Checkering is sharp and clean, with virtually no wear. Bores are near mint, with just a few minor flecks visible. Action is crisp. There are extractor wipe marks on breechface but no firing halos.
