*SCARCE 20 GAUGE L. C. SMITH 3E GRADE WITH SINGLE TRIGGER AND STRAIGHT GRIP.SN 6133E. Cal.20 GA This unusual pre 1913 gun with only 149 made in this gauge, has 30” bbls marked with “HUNTER ARMS COMPANY” and “FULTON, NEW YORK” on rib extension. Bbl flats are stamped with SN and grade. Small featherweight case hardened action features non-automatic safety and Hunter’s selective “ONE TRIGGER”. Action and lockplates are engraved with sprays of scroll within line borders surrounding game scenes without ovals, with pairs of quail on both sides. “L. C. SMITH” is engraved at the front of each lockplate. Nicely fiddle figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 13-3/4” over brown open sided Pachmayr white line pad. Matching splinter ejector forend has inlet ebony tip, J-spring release, and secondary latch in guitar shaped escutcheon. Bore diameter: left -.613, right -.612. Bore restrictions: left -.023 (IMod), right -.021 (Mod). Wall thickness: left -.033, right -.032. Drop at heel: 2″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 6 lbs 9 oz. LOP: 13-3/4″. Bbls retain over 80% of what appears to be orig blue, with light silvering of sharp edges, and thinning overall. Action and lockplates retain 40 – 60% orig case hardening color, strong where protected, balance a hand worn bright silver. Stocks retain most of an old varnish refinish, which has some chipping around checkering and newer pad, checkering somewhat worn and grimy. There is a slight hairline crack behind left lockplate.
