Twentieth century historical painter, Brian Coole, is known for creating highly detailed historical paintings of ships and important events. This oil on panel depicts three American ships with canons at the ready resting in calm harbor waters. The crew is rowing towards the central vessel, who’s sails are furled, while the other two vessels have lowered their sails and raised their anchors in anticipation of departure.
