*MATCHED PAIR OF SUPERBLY REFURBISHED STEPHEN GRANT SIDELOCK EJECTOR GAME GUNS WITH CASE.SN 8044/ 8045. (1919) Cal. 12 ga. Starting with a fine orig pair of actions, these great guns have been completely refurbished and now sport new bbls and stocks, as well as complete refinishing and rebuilding of mechanisms. Many of these guns were done by Ken Duglin when he was proprietor of Atkin, Grant, and Lang. These guns have new beautifully struck 30″ chopper lump bbls, gold inlaid “1” and “2” toward centers of narrow game ribs. (“1” and “2” are also gold inlaid on top levers and forend tips.) Tops of bbls are engraved “Stephen Grant & Sons.” and “7. Bury Street. St. James’s London.” on tops. Bbl flats are stamped with 2001 London nitro proofs for 2-3/4″ chambers. SNs are stamped on bottom of bbl of gun “1”, and engraved on bottom of bbl of gun “2”. Case hardened bar lock sidelock actions feature automatic safeties (SAFE gold inlaid), bushed strikers, and double triggers. Actions are nicely filed with fillets and beads, and Stephen Grant’s classic fluted fences. Actions and lockplates are engraved with nearly full coverage well cut medium and small scroll with acanthus on flutes. “Stephen Grant & Sons” is on each lockplate. Best London new stocks are of exceptionally fine dark veined and lightly figured European walnut (buttstock of gun “2” is somewhat lighter in color). Stocks feature straight grips, checkered wood butts, classic drop points and checkering, and gold ovals on toe lines engraved “L.C”. Matching splinter ejector forends have Anson releases. Gun no. “1”: Bore diameter: left -.725, right -.725. Bore restrictions: left -.022 (mod), right -.013 (lt mod). Wall thickness: left -.032, right -.032. Drop at heel: 2-5/16″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 6 lbs 12 oz. LOP: 14-3/4″. Gun no. “2”: Bore diameter: left -.724, right -.725. Bore restrictions: left -.024 (mod), right -.012 (lt mod). Wall thickness: left -.035, right -.033. Drop at heel: 2-1/4″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 6 lbs 13 oz. LOP: 14-3/4″. Note: guns are “cast on” approx 1/2″. Best quality oak and leather two-gun case with brass corners and circular central medallion, is in brown canvas outer cover with tan leather trim. Central panel on top is embossed “L. C.” Case is lined in scarlet cloth with Grant paper label with Broomhill Leys, Windmill Road address. Case contains 2-pc black composition and brass cleaning rod with mop, brush, and jag in leather wallet, Atkin, Grant and Lang marked square oil bottle, and 2 marked pairs of AGL snap caps. Covered compartment with brass knob holds the key. CONDITION: Exceptionally fine as completely factory re-conditioned with new bbls and stocks. Guns retain essentially all “best” finishes on wood and metal, with just a hint of silvering on action beads, thumbpieces, and sides of trigger guard bows. Bores are excellent. Actions are tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Case is excellent, near new in all respects. A lovely pair of guns ready for another century of enjoyment. 49305-5 MGM191 (26,000-36,000) – Lot 2298
