SN 12165. (ca 1872) Cal. 12 ga. 2-1/2″ Chambers. 30″ Beautifully browned Damascus bbls are engraved with Westley Richards name and Bond Street address on broad, swamped, concave game rib that has typical dolls head extension. Bottoms of bbls are stamped with orig Birmingham black powder proofs, SNs, and 1989 London nitro re-proofs for 2-1/2″ chambers. Bar in wood type action features Westley Richards patent top lever. Patent use number 2029 is on water table. Action has silver flash guards. Bar action locks are fitted with round bodied serpentine hammers with stylized dolphin heads. Locks and action are engraved with nicely cut medium shaded scroll. Hammers are engraved with smaller, simple scroll. Lockplates are each engraved “Westley Richards”. Nicely fiddle figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-1/4″ over thick checkered hard rubber buttplate. Drop points are behind locks. Point pattern checkering with line borders is at grip. A small silver circle on toe line is engraved with initials “KHG” (?) and date “1871”. Weight: 6 lbs 11 oz. LOP: 14-1/4”. Makers type oak and leather case with sliding brass locks and leather tacked to edges, is lined in dark green cloth, and has hand drawn Westley Richards paper label in lid. CONDITION: Very fine, as refurbished. Bbls retain essentially all of an excellent “best” re-brown, giving excellent definition to pattern. Action and locks retain a gray to brown patina, engraving remains quite good. Top lever and trigger guard are re-blued. Stocks are sound, with no breaks in area of crab joint, which is especially delicate. There is evidence of considerable, strong repair at wrist. Stocks retain nearly all of a hand rubbed, glossy finish over light marks, checkering re-cut. Bores are excellent, shiny with one or two minor pits. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Locks are crisp. Case leather has been stabilized, but is very dark with old owners name ghosting through added shellac. Renewed interior cloth is excellent. This gun measures well, and would make a classy shooter. 49009-1 MGM41 (8,500-12,500) – Lot 2288
