CHIPPENDALE FIGURED MAHOGANY REVERSE SERPENTINE CHEST OF DRAWERS.

Circa 1780 Salem, Massachusetts. Boldly shaped chest with highly figured single boards of mahogany composing the case. Drawer fronts particularly nice figure accentuating Serpentine contour. Claw and ball carved base with shell carved medial drop pendant is particularly well executed and completely intact. The drawer edges have a thumbnail beading instead of extruded lips or applied cockbeading. Brasses are bold Chippendale examples and all hardware appears original including locks. Surface is soft, old historic finish with great color. SIZE: 34″ h x 36-1/4″ w (case dimension) x 19″ d (case dimension). PROVENANCE: From a Maine/Texas estate being sold unreserved.
