VERY RARE WILLIAM AND MARY GATELEG TABLE OF SMALL SIZE.Circa 1730, New England. The table with original red washed surfaces and scrubbed top projecting above the apron fitted with T-head nailed full length drawer retaining its original mushroom knob. The size and turning schedule on this table are remarkable and rare to find in such great condition. The baroque design and scale of the turnings are very compelling particularly on such a small example, and to find the feet not severely diminished is very rare. Maple and birch with white pine secondary wood. SIZE: 27-1/4″ h x 11-3/4″w x 30″ d. 38″ w open. CONDITION: The birch top with original hinges, leaves and with remnants of early red wash with in-use wear. Top and one leaf with faded water staining. One leaf with hinge cuts near outer edges. The base with unused hinge pockets within the interior edge of outer legs raising the probability of top being an early replacement. Otherwise good with appealing worn in-use surface. Feet are intact and appear of full height. 51331-35 (3,000-6,000) – Lot 2268
