EBENEZER TRACY SUPERB KNUCKLE ARM BOWBACK WINDSOR ARMCHAIR.

Circa 1790, Lisbon, Connecticut. This maple, hickory, and poplar example with early brown over original green paint. The bowed crest rail with seven spindles joined to the medial arm rail with boldly carved knuckle hand grips supported on raked vigorously turned base, ring-and-reel-turned armed supports and bulbous turned spindles centering a deeply carved oval saddle seat with pronounced pontel. The whole raised on widely splayed vase ring-and-reel-turned legs raised on bulbous turned arrow stretchers. NOTE: This armchair is unsigned but we feel is the work of Ebenezer Tracy. See The Windsor Style in America by Santore, page 107, plate 99. SIZE: 34-1/2″ h of back x 17-1/2″ h of seat x 25″ w. CONDITION: Small wedge shaped seat patch, proper right side front.
