FINE PAINTED CHIPPENDALE CHAIR TABLE.Second half 18th century, New England. The round maple three-board scrub top with cleats on the underside of tapered and chamfered form joined to the chair base with pins at the arms. The horizontal arms raised on four square lamb’s tongue chamfered legs centering the seat box with movable two-board seat opening to a storage well with removable bottom board long absent. The whole in original red paint and with mortise-and-tenon joinery throughout the base. SIZE: 27-3/4″ h closed x 44″ d. CONDITION: Wood hinge pins are old replacements. Chair seat with old water stains. Stabilized shrinkage cracks in top. Center of top with old water stain, now faint.
