EXCEPTIONAL AND VERY RARE SMALL PILGRIM CENTURY TRANSITIONAL JOINT STOOL TAVERN TABLE WITH DRAWER.

Circa 1700-1720, New England. A rare diminutive example with original Spanish brown paint and with baroque down weighted baluster turnings of the early William and Mary period with intact turnip feet, boxed stretchers, the frame fitted with a drawer on one end, which is rarely seen. The top composed of two boards and molded with a fielded edge. A rare and appealing early survivor. Reference: Fine Points of Furniture by Albert Sack. See page 38 for similar example under “Best”. SIZE: 25-1/4″ h x 23-1/2″ l x 15-3/4″ w. CONDITION: Original paint significantly worn on upper half of table, revealing fine dark patina. The lipped drawer front with pierced Queen Anne handle is an early replacement, the drawer with some rebuilding, including edges of drawer bottom, the lower edges of drawer restored. Top not removed for examination. Drawer lock absent, high quality patch filled visible from interior only. All other elements original and intact including full feet.
