*LOVELY GOLDEN AGE HEAVY PROOF BOSS GAME GUN WITH CASE.

SN 7593. (ca 1928) Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 30″ Chopper lump bbls are engraved “Boss & Co. 13 Dover Street. Piccadilly, London. England.” on narrow, swamped game rib. Bbl flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-3/4″ chambers, and “CHOKE”. SNs are on bottoms of bbls. Coin finished sidelock action is stocked to the fences, and features non-automatic safety (SAFE inlaid in gold) (automatic safety “wire” is in envelope in case), gold band tumbler end cocking indicators, bushed strikers, and double triggers. Action and lockplates are engraved in classic Boss house style, undoubtedly done by Jack Sumner, with exceptionally well cut, miniscule, shaded scroll surrounding 20 rose bouquets. “Boss & Co” is on each lockplate. Blued top lever and single beaded trigger guard are also scroll engraved. SN is in semi-relief at grip. Nicely marbled and lightly figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-1/2″ over checkered horn buttplate. Classic drop points are behind lockplates and typical point pattern checkering with mullered borders is at grip. A small gold oval engraved “P-L.T.” is on toe line which is shaped with 1/8″ negative camber giving swept racy look. Matching splinter forend has Anson release and is fitted with Boss’s highly rated ejector system. Bore diameter: left -.729, right -.729. Bore restrictions: left -.031 (full), right -.017 (mod). Wall thickness: left -.030, right -.027. Drop at heel: 2-1/4″, drop at comb: 1-9/16″. Weight: 7 lbs 2 oz. LOP: 14-1/2″. What is possibly orig makers oak and leather case with brass corners, has later inset leather rectangle on top, embossed “R. F. G.” Interior is lined in scarlet cloth, and has large paper Boss Dover Street label in lid. Case contains Boss marked snap caps, square oil bottle, and aforementioned automatic safety “wire”. CONDITION: Excellent, as partially, lightly, and correctly refinished. Bbls retain approx 95% of an old “best” re-black, thinned on sides from normal hand wear, silvered at sharp edges of breeches and muzzles. Action retains approx 60% orig case hardening color, silvering on fences and beads, thinning on bottom from normal hand wear. Lockplates retain over 90% of their orig color. Top lever is slightly silvered on thumbpiece. Trigger guard, possibly with correct re-black, is silvered on sharp edges and at grip. Stocks retain essentially all of a hand rubbed oil finish over a few scattered light dents and marks, with some subsequent light marks. Checkering has not been re-cut. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are strong and in time. Case leather is still light in color, darkening a bit on edges, and with a few rubs. Straps are good. Newer handle is excellent. Interior cloth is very fine with some compressions, rubs as well as soiling from contact with compartment knobs, action, and bbls. Label is considerably foxed with one or two marks and rubs. Accessories are fine. Simply a great, heavy proof Boss, that measures perfectly. 49580-2 MGM374 (30,000-50,000) – Lot 2253
