*FINE “GOLDEN AGE” BOSS OVER-UNDER SINGLE TRIGGER GAME GUN WITH CASE.

SN 7903. (ca 1928) Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 28″ Demi-bloc bbls fitted with narrow, matted, solid rib, are engraved “Boss & Co 41 Albemarle Street. Piccadilly. London. W.” and “Made in England” on left side of top bbl. Right side of top bbl and bottom bbl flat are stamped with London nitro proofs for 2-1/2″ chambers, along with a later London re-proof, charge and chamber unspecified. Bbls are stamped with Whitworth sheaf of wheat trademarks. SN is on bottom bbl. Classic low profile Boss OU action with its unique pivoting trunnions and removable jointing blocks on the circle, features non-automatic safety (SAFE gold inlaid), bushed strikers, gold band tumbler end cocking indicators, and Boss’ incomparable single trigger. Action is engraved with approx 80% coverage exceptionally well cut small scroll with 17 rose bouquets in Boss house style as executed by Jack Sumner. Boss’ OU patent no. is on each side of action. “Boss & Co” is on each lockplate. Trigger plate is marked with single trigger patent no. Blued, beaded, small bow trigger guard is engraved to match action, and has SN on tang. Classic lightly marbled and nicely flame figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-5/8″ over checkered wood butt, and features drop points, point pattern checkering with mullered borders at grip, and a vacant gold oval on toe line. Matching one piece forend is fitted with Boss’ distinctively styled ejector system and Anson release. Bore diameter: top -.730, bottom -.730. Bore restrictions: top -.008 (IC), bottom -.014 (lt mod). Wall thickness: top -.029, bottom -.029. Drop at heel: 2-1/4″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Weight: 6 lbs 12 oz. LOP: 14-5/8″. Abercrombie & Fitch marked leather VC case with stitched leather corners is embossed “M.S.P.” on top. Case is lined in burgundy cloth and has paper Boss Dover Street label in lid. Case contains a pair of snap caps, 2-pc wood and brass cleaning rod, A&F marked square oil bottle, and the key. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbls retain over 90% of what appears to be orig blue, sharp edges of rib silvered, and some thinning with further silvering on bolsters at breech ends from contact with case. Action retains 60 – 70% orig case hardening color, strong and vivid where protected, silvering on high points, and thinning on bottom from normal hand wear. Lockplates retain in excess of 90% of their color, right lock with most loss, silvered at bottom from finger wear. Top lever, forend iron, and trigger guard retain most of their orig blue. Stocks are very fine with numerous light marks, and an area of light pings on left side of butt, in what appears to be their orig finish. Checkering slightly worn and darkened. Bores are excellent with no visible imperfections. Action is tight. Bbls are on face. Ejectors are slightly out of time. Trigger works well. Case leather is still light in color, but has considerable chips and rubs, mostly on edges. One strap is missing, other strap and handle are good. Interior cloth is fine with some marks and rubs from contact with gun and bbls. Label is excellent. Accessories are good. A great handling classic Boss. 49305-12 MGM89 (50,000-70,000) – Lot 2250
