GOOD SOUTHERN INLAID WALNUT SUGAR CHEST.First quarter 19th century, probably South Carolina. The hinged lid with carved eight petal flower head within a contrasting string-inlaid border opening to storage area. Dovetailed box with similar floral carvings on sides and front set upon a table stand fitted with a pair of aligned short drawers with contrasting inlaid escutcheon and line borders. Raised on ring-turned swelled columnar legs with turned cuffs. SIZE: 34″ h x 26″ l x 18″ d. CONDITION: The top with butterfly repairs to old seam crack. Loss to one end of curved strip of string inlay. Locks and keys present. Surfaces cleaned and re-polished. Generally good. 51019-2 (1,500-2,500) – Lot 2228
