MERWIN & HULBERT 3RD MODEL ARMY REVOLVER WITH FOLDING HAMMER.SN 24702. Cal. 44 W.C.F. 7″ bbl. Full nickel finish with 2-pc checkered hard rubber grips. Bbl shows 1-line Merwin & Hulbert patent mark on top with manufacturer’s mark “The Hopkins & Allen Manufacturing Co. Norwich. Conn. U.S.A”on left side. SN is stamped on the butt of the frame behind the lanyard ring, on the rear face of the cyl, and on the rear face of the bbl lug. Left side of frame is marked Calibre Winchester 1873. Assembly no. 2112 is stamped on the left inside grip strap. Hammer has patented folding spur. No. 932 is stamped on the face of the hammer spur. This gun is featured on Pg. 35 “The Story of Merwin, Hulbert & Co. Firearms” by Phelps 2nd Edition and Pg. 17 of the 1st Edition. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl retains 90% of the nickel finish that has dulled with age. Bbl markings are sharp and clear. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Frame retains 90% dull nickel finish with minor flaking and slight erosion at heel of the butt. Markings are clear and sharp. Cyl. retains 90% dull nickel with only a couple of spots of flaking and a very light drag mark around the rear periphery. Hammer shows a considerable amount of case color remaining. Trigger guard and trigger also show generous traces of case color in protected areas. Grips are fine with no missing pieces and sharp checkering. Left grip is slightly cracked on inside due to over tightening of the grip screw. A very nice example of Merwin & Hulbert 3rd Model Army revolver in the untouched condition collectors like to see them in. 51273-3 TEP (4,000-6,000) – Lot 2223
