CARVED HUTCHINS GOOSE HOLLOW BODY DECOY.Late 19th early 20th century, American. Also know as “cackling goose”, The genus name Branta is a Latinised form of Old Norse Brandgás, “burnt (black) goose”, and the specific epithet hutchinsii commemorates English surgeon Thomas Hutchins who was employed by the Hudson’s Bay Company. The decoy with old if not original painted surface and with iron weight, now well worn and abraded from in-use wear. SIZE: 17-1/2″ l.
