LOUIS XVI TRANSITIONAL FRUITWOOD FAUTEUIL.Late 18th, early 19th century. The overupholstered shaped paneled back with molded crestrail centering a floral crest joined to molded outcurved arms continuing to fluted scrolling hand grips on incurved molded supports centering shaped molded over upholstered brass tacked seat over serpentine seatrails. Raised on tapering fluted cylindrical frontal legs headed by carved floral rosettes. SIZE: 37″ h (back) x 16″ h (seat). 25″ w (overall) CONDITION: Armrests maintain original horsehair and leather covering. Crestrail with old repairs at shoulders. Old stress crack and repair to proper right arm support at hand grip. Floral rosettes absent at top of rear legs. Old repair including re-attachment of proper rear leg. Most pegs remain in place and are believed to be original. Seat blue blocks are later replacements. Chair frame has been cleaned of all surfaces. Otherwise fair. 51437-14 (1,200-1,800) – Lot 2218
