LOCOMOTIVE BUILDERS PRINT 1855.

Lowell, Massachusetts. A colored lithograph image of the locomotive engine and tender “Ariel”, with title “Locomotive Engine For Passengers – As Built By The Lowell Machine Shop 1855, Lowell, Massachusetts”. Identified lower left “Made By O.E. Cushing, 1855″, printed by L.H. Bradford. These prints were produced as both a technical illustration and an advertisement. Oliver Edwards Cushing (1829 – 1890) was a mechanical engineer and patent agent and is listed in the 1851 and 1853 edition of the Lowell city directory as an employee of the Lowell Machine Shop working as a mechanical draughtsman.
